At 72 and after more than four decades of singing, acting and touring, Mexico’s brightest ranchera star, Vicente Fernandez, is bidding farewell. Fernandez, the undisputed “King of Ranchera”, recently announced that he would retire at the conclusion of his current “Gira del Adios” world tour—and the news has fans flocking to the box offices in an effort to see their idol on stage one last time.

The artist’s 21-city stateside tour includes back-to-back shows at Chicago’s Allstate Arena. While his original show on Sunday, October 21 (7:00 p.m.) is quickly selling, a second show, set for Saturday, October 20 (8:00 p.m.), has been added. Tickets for the October 20 show will go on sale Friday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at Ticketmaster.com.
Fernandez is the epitome of a living legend throughout all of Latin America. With a career spanning over 40 years, Fernandez, or “Chente,” as he is affectionately known, is the “King” of the Mexican ranchera genre. His universally loved hits include “Volver, Volver,” “La Ley del Monte,” “De Que Manera Te Olvido,” and “Las Llaves De Mi Alma,” among others. He has received numerous recognitions throughout his career, including a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and multiple Grammy nominations.

In 2002 he was named Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy, and he has also been inducted to the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.

As in the previous two years, Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch and the Mexican singing legend have partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) to boost educational opportunities in the Latino community, and a local Latino student will receive a university scholarship before each U.S. concert. The recipient will appear onstage to accept and will have an opportunity to go backstage to meet the iconic singer. Since 2010, Fernandez, Budweiser and the Anheuser-Busch Foundation have awarded 49 scholarships and contributed $200,000 to the HSF.

The month of April proved to be full of media and social commitments for CMN boss Henry Cardenas. Cardenas’s month started with a CNN en Español in-studio interview in which he shared his thoughts on the fast-approaching and sold-out international soccer friendly between Brazil and Argentina on June 9 at MetLife Stadium. No ordinary friendly, this meeting will mark the first time the South American giants face off on U.S. soil. CMN Sports is the U.S. rights holder for the Argentinean National Team.

After celebrating his 56th birthday in style on April 17, the impresario headed to Miami to announce another wildly anticipated event: the GIGANT3S U.S. Tour, featuring music giants Marc Anthony, Marco Antonio Solis and Chayanne. The unprecedented, 15-stop stateside trek kicks off Aug. 3 at Miami's American Airlines Arena and goes on to visit other major cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas, among others. "This [tour] is going to work because of the quality of the production and promotion being put into it," Cardenas told Billboard.

The next day, Cardenas joined a panel of leaders at the Billboard Latin Music Conference, where he discussed the state of the music industry. The panel was moderated by Billboard’s Leila Cobo and included Tomas Cookman, President of Nacional Records; Victor Gonzalez, President of Universal Music Latin Entertainment; Rebeca Leon, VP of Latin Talent for AEG Live/Goldenvoice; and Nir Seroussi, General Manager of Sony Music U.S. Latin. While at the annual conference, Billboard honored his CMN team with the Best Tour Sponsorship Award for the 5® Gum / Camila U.S. Tour.

As if that weren't rewarding enough, later that day the philanthropist hosted the inaugural reception/fundraiser for Maestro Cares, the non-profit organization he founded along with Marc Anthony this year. The historic event took place on April 24 at Miami’s Shelborne Hotel and included an appearance by the internationally renowned Anthony. Maestro Cares seeks to aid disadvantaged children throughout Latin America by providing housing, education and medical assistance, among other things.

The Colombian native concluded the busy month with a bang on April 27 as he was presented with the St. Augustine College’s El Puente Award, honoring Chicago's outstanding community leaders.

CMN is proud to announce the addition of a new member in its Chicago headquarters. Hector Scarano, an attorney by trade, will be spearheading CMN’s Motorsports division. Scarano’s primary role at CMN will be to legitimize the agency’s motorsports division, focusing on the Gustavo Yacaman project, through effective acquisition of sponsorship partners that will help further CMN's reputation as a full-service marketing agency.

“CMN has so far exposed me to a limitless world of exciting possibilities. I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the success of CMN by closely working with the company’s existing properties but also helping further develop CMN Motorsports as an industry-leading sponsorship acquisition and activation agency.

On April 24, Billboard – the world’s premier music brand – recognized outstanding brands and agencies at its second annual Billboard Latin Music Conference in Miami, FL. CMN took home the “Best Tour Sponsorship” award for the 5® Gum / Camila “Dejarte De Amar” Tour. The awards were divided into four categories that included social media/online campaigns, tour sponsorship, TV campaigns, and print.

“We’re thrilled to receive the Billboard Latin Music Marketing Award for the second straight year,” said Erik Bankston, CMN’s Senior Account Director for Wrigley. “We understand Wrigley’s target consumer and the importance of creating a connection with them via a high-profile and successful platform such as Camila.

“CMN and 5® Gum have been collaborating on an array of projects over the last few years, and when you have a sponsor that offers their undivided commitment to a campaign, it makes all the difference for us -- and an unforgettable experience for fans.”

Latin Billboard Executive Director of Latin Content and Programming Leila Cobo said it's important not only to talk about best practices in campaigns but to recognize those efforts that meet or surpass standards. "Brands have become incredibly important, not only in marketing albums but in releasing albums," Cobo said after the winners were announced. "There is a need for these type of campaigns. Labels say they rely on them.”

The CMN-produced “Dejarte de Amar” tour, which included 10 U.S. stops, featured on-site activations, retail activations, and fan contests. The award marks the second consecutive Billboard Marketing accolade for CMN.

“This recognition by Billboard is a credit to the collective and creative efforts of CMN and Wrigley.”

The event will be part of Argentina’s week-long activities in New York as it prepares for its highly anticipated meeting with five-time FIFA® World Cup champion Brazil June 9 before a sold-out MetLife Stadium (3:00 p.m. ET / Gol TV). The international friendly, which sold out in just over three weeks, is the fastest-selling soccer friendly in U.S history.

Tickets for the Argentina open practice are now on sale and can be purchased by calling Red Bull New York at 1-877-RBSOCCER. It’s going to be a great week for soccer fans in New York.”

For each team, the hotly anticipated visit will serve as a return trip to the Big Apple. Both Brazil and Argentina played the U.S. National Team at MetLife Stadium, on August 10, 2010 and March 26, 2011, respectively. For Brazil, the visit is one of many international stops on the Gillette Brazil World Tour and the third of their 2012 U.S. visit.

"We are thrilled to be hosting Argentina - widely known as one of the top teams in international soccer," said New York Red Bulls President, Business Operations Chris Heck. "At Red Bull Arena, we provide an one-of-a-kind atmosphere for our fans and supporters and we expect that this event will be a great opportunity for Red Bulls Season Ticket Holders, soccer lovers and sports enthusiasts across the New York area to see some of the best players in the world."

Commonly known as the “Battle of the South Americans,” the Argentina-Brazil rivalry dates back to 1914 and spans 92 matches over 97 years. Heading into the June 9 match at MetLife Stadium — which marks the first time the two powers face off on U.S. Soil — the all-time record stands at 34 wins apiece and 24 draws. While La Albilceleste boasts Messi, A Seleção features one of the brightest young stars in the world’s game in Neymar.

Argentina, home to one of the sport’s most iconic figures, Diego Maradona, is one of only five nations to hoist multiple World Cups and is a 14-time continental champion. Brazil is largely considered the most successful federation in international soccer, home to many of the sport’s icons, including Pele, Ronaldo, and current Real Madrid superstar Kaka. Brazil is the only nation to win five World Cups and is an eight-time continental champion.
