At 72 and after more than four decades of singing, acting and touring, Mexico’s brightest ranchera star, Vicente Fernandez, is bidding farewell. Fernandez, the undisputed “King of Ranchera”, recently announced that he would retire at the conclusion of his current “Gira del Adios” world tour—and the news has fans flocking to the box offices in an effort to see their idol on stage one last time.

The artist’s 21-city stateside tour includes back-to-back shows at Chicago’s Allstate Arena. While his original show on Sunday, October 21 (7:00 p.m.) is quickly selling, a second show, set for Saturday, October 20 (8:00 p.m.), has been added. Tickets for the October 20 show will go on sale Friday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Allstate Arena Box Office, located at 6920 N. Mannheim Road in Rosemont, IL.

Fernandez is the epitome of a living legend throughout all of Latin America. With a career spanning over 40 years, Fernandez, or “Chente,” as he is affectionately known, is the “King” of the Mexican ranchera genre. His universally loved hits include “Volver, Volver,” “La Ley del Monte,” “De Que Manera Te Olvido,” and “Las Llaves De Mi Alma,” among others. He has received numerous recognitions throughout his career, including a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and multiple Grammy nominations.

In 2002 he was named Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy, and he has also been inducted to the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.

As in the previous two years, Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch and the Mexican singing legend have partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) to boost educational opportunities in the Latino community, and a local Latino student will receive a university scholarship before each U.S. concert. The recipient will appear onstage to accept and will have an opportunity to go backstage to meet the iconic singer. Since 2010, Fernandez, Budweiser and the Anheuser-Busch Foundation have awarded 49 scholarships and contributed $200,000 to the HSF.

The month of April proved to be full of media and social commitments for CMN boss Henry Cardenas. Cardenas’s month started with a CNN en Español in-studio interview in which he shared his thoughts on the fast-approaching and sold-out international soccer friendly between Brazil and Argentina on June 9 at MetLife Stadium. No ordinary friendly, this meeting will mark the first time the South American giants face off on U.S. soil. CMN Sports is the U.S. rights holder for the Argentinean National Team. After celebrating his 56^th birthday in style on April 17, the impresario headed to Miami to announce another wildly anticipated event: the GIGANT3S U.S. Tour, featuring music giants Marc Anthony, Marco Antonio Solis and Chayanne. The unprecedented, 15-stop stateside trek kicks off Aug. 3 at Miami's American Airlines Arena and goes on to visit other major cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas, among others. The next day, Cardenas joined a panel of leaders at the Billboard Latin Music Conference, where he discussed the state of the music industry. The panel was moderated by Billboard’s Leila Cobo and included Tomas Cookman, President of Nacional Records; Victor Gonzalez, President of Universal Music Latin Entertainment; Rebeca Leon, VP of Latin Talent for AEG Live/Goldenvoice; and Nir Seroussi, General Manager of Sony Music U.S. Latin. A historic event took place on April 24, 2012, as Maestro Cares co-founders Henry Cardenas and international icon Marc Anthony hosted the inaugural reception/fundraiser for the new, non-profit organization. The profits from the event, held at Miami’s Shelborne Hotel, will immediately benefit Maestro Cares and in particular, Orfanatos Niños de Cristo, an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. Maestro Cares seeks to aide disadvantaged children throughout Latin America by providing housing, education and medical assistance, among other things. On April 24, Billboard – the world’s premier music brand – recognized outstanding brands and agencies at its second annual Billboard Latin Music Conference in Miami, FL. CMN took home the “Best Tour Sponsorship” award for the 5® Gum / Camila “Dejarte De Amar” Tour. The awards were divided into four categories that included social media/online campaigns, tour sponsorship, TV campaigns, and print.
